Students of 2 Hope schools safe after temporary lockdowns

Lockdown took place Thursday afternoon, school district confirms

Coquihalla Elementary School and Hope Secondary School were both on lockdown Thursday afternoon (June 12).

From 1:30 p.m. to 2:05 p.m. both schools were placed on a short lockdown or "hold and secure" as a precautionary measure while Hope RCMP were investigating.

"The RCMP has confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff," said Balan Moorthy, Fraser-Cascade superintendent, in a letter addressed to the parents and students. "The situation has been resolved, and the individual involved has been addressed by law enforcement, with appropriate consequences being pursued."

According to Moorthy, both of the schools resumed their regular routines, and busing, after the lockdown was lifted. The school is also providing counselling and support services to students who may have been affected by the lockdown.

Details surrounding the investigation, and what led to the short lockdown, are unknown at this time.
