TELUS has announced an update to their multi-year investment in communities across Canada, including $15 billion in B.C. and $47 million specifically in the Lower Mainland.
According to TELUS, this investment will support enhancements to the province’s network infrastructure and operations through to 2029. The enhancements promise faster and more reliable connectivity and also providing B.C. businesses and researchers with access to AI technology.
They also stated that these funds will boost productivity and support the local and broader Canadian economy.
Lower Mainland communities receiving investment include:
- Surrey - $10.8 million
- Abbotsford - $8 million
- Delta - $7.8 million
- Langley - $7.3 million
- Maple Ridge - $4.5 million
- Richmond - $4.4 million
- Burnaby - $3.9 million
"Connectivity is an essential cornerstone of any thriving community. It keeps residents linked to the services, supports and opportunities they rely on every day, and ensures businesses have the tools they need to grow and compete,” stated Abbotsford mayor Ross Siemens. “Strengthening our digital networks not only enhances access and communications, but also drives economic development and creates more accessible pathways to prosperity.”
Improvements include enhancements to 5G and LTE services at 228 sites province-wide, launching an AI factory in Kamloops and bringing TELUS PureFibre connectivity to more homes and businesses across B.C., including 14 Indigenous communities.
"It is great to see TELUS continue to make significant investments in wireless and PureFibre infrastructure in the Township of Langley," stated Township of Langley mayor Eric Woodward. "These initiatives help enhance our residents' quality of life through improved connectivity while supporting our community's growth and development. We’ll continue working with TELUS to drive more investments in all areas of our community.”
