Career Exploration Fair at Hope Secondary continues to inspire students

Job vendors from all over the Fraser Valley at school

It was an exciting day for Fraser-Cascade School District 78 as its students discovered unique careers during the Career Exploration Fair on May 29.

The gym at Hope Secondary School was full of students last Thursday, from Grade 5 to Grade 12, who were eager to learn about the career options available to them.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. vendors from both the District of Hope and Fraser Valley showed off the tools of their trade and provided informations on jobs in both the trades and academics. Students from all the over the district, as far as Boston Bar Elementary Secondary school, had big grins on their faces as they interacted with x-ray machines, played Jenga, got new hairstyles, and munched on healthy snacks provided by Michelle Vandepol, the school district's food coordinator.

At least 25 stations or careers were on display for students to browse and ask questions. This included booths for Seabird Island College, the Fraser Valley Regional District, Fraser Health Authority, and construction companies such as Rimex.

Additionally, the Hope RCMP, the Hope Fire Department, and the Department of Fisheries, were also on site and brought their work vehicles to the fair for the kids to sit in and explore. The fire engine was particularly popular and many of the kids were laughing as they hoisted themselves up onto the seat and peered over the steering wheel.
