Abbotsford police have released a photo of a man they wish to identify after a sexual assault on Wednesday (June 11).

Abbotsford police are searching for a man in his 30s after a reported sexual assault in the Fishtrap Creek Park area on Wednesday (June 11).

According to a news release from the Abbotsford Police Department, a woman reported that she was walking alone in the park between the Judo Club and the baseball fields at approximately 12:45 p.m. when she was approached by a man who tried to engage her in conversation.

Police say the man followed her and sexually assaulted her when she attempted to leave.

"She was able to flee and alert nearby witnesses, who then called the police. Although the victim was shaken by the incident, she did not sustain physical injuries," APD said.

An investigation is in its early stages, per the release. APD investigated the scene and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Services also joined the search for the suspect.  However, the suspected man remains at large and detectives have released a photograph of a mam they are trying to identify.

"The suspect is described as a South Asian male, believed to be in his 30s, with a groomed beard, black hair, and brown eyes. He was wearing a black turban, a short-sleeved grey shirt, and navy pants," police said.

APD advises anyone who sees the man to call 911 and not approach.  Those with information are urged to contact Detective Maarhuis at 604-864-4864.
