AMENDMENT BYLAW NO. 2500.07

Electoral Areas A, C, E, G and H

Pursuant to Section 464(3) and 467(2) of the Local Government Act, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) advises that a Public Hearing is not being held for proposed “Regional District of Nanaimo Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2500.07, 2025” (Bylaw 2500.07). A Public Hearing is not being held as Official Community Plans (OCP) apply to the electoral areas subject to Bylaw 2500.07 and the RDN Board considers Bylaw 2500.07 to be consistent with the applicable OCP’s.

Bylaw 2500.07 affects properties located in RDN Electoral Areas A, E, C, G and H that are subject to “Regional District of Nanaimo Zoning Bylaw No. 2500, 2024” (Bylaw 2500).

The RDN intends to consider first reading of Bylaw 2500.07 at its regular Board meeting:

PURPOSE OF PROPOSED BYLAW

In general terms, the purpose of the bylaw is to:

  • Update the definition of livestock for clarification purposes;
  • Add a new definition of school with greater focus and which excludes rehabilitation programs and correctional facilities;
  • Increase in the maximum number of students that a personal recreation use home-based business is permitted from six to eight students at one time;
  • Correct an administrative error by restoring the maximum accessory building floor area to what it was prior to the option of Bylaw 2500; and,
  • Reduce the minimum parcel area eligible for a Section 514 subdivision from 4.0 hectares to 2.0 hectares.

WHERE CAN I INSPECT THE BYLAW?

A copy of the proposed bylaw, the Board resolution to not hold a Public Hearing, and other relevant documents may be inspected at the RDN Administration Office. The office is located at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo, B.C., open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding public holidays.
