The RCMP continue to investigate a fatal single-vehicle crash involving a Williams Lake area man on Friday, Aug. 23 at 2:08 p.m.

Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the BC RCMP said the Williams Lake RCMP received an abandoned 911 call on Highway 97 near Jacobson Drive, followed by a second call confirming a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle had occurred in the area.

A southbound motorcycle apparently lost control around a corner, left the roadway, and came to rest down a steep embankment, Clark said.

Clark noted the driver, a 54-year-old man from Williams Lake, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene, adding speed and driving behaviour are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

“The Williams Lake RCMP would like to thank the two motorists who witnessed the crash, and stopped to render first aid,” said Clark. “While ultimately unsuccessful, their efforts are very much appreciated.”

He confirmed no other vehicles were involved, and no one else was injured.

The highway was closed in both directions between Jacobson Drive and  Airport Road while an assessment of the scene was underway.
