St. Alban's a cool place to be with new air conditioning installed

Donations funded 80 per cent of the cost of installing AC units in the church and the hall

The Rev. Linda LaGroix (r) conducted the first baptism at the Mission Church of St. Hilda's in Spences Bridge on May 25.

Wow!

As of May 19, the long-hoped-for air conditioning has been installed at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Ashcroft, and is working beautifully! Thanks to the amazing generosity of this community, we were able to pay 80 per cent of the cost from your donations.

There are two units: a smaller one in the church which will be run as needed, and a larger one in the church hall that is on continuously until the fall. Both units heat and cool, so we should be able to maintain a comfortable temperature for all our events. However, the important thing that we are reminding everyone about is to please, keep the doors and windows closed.

Using our previously-installed solar power system, we are expecting that the power we generate will more than pay for the use of the units. Thanks again to everyone who donated to this big project. It’s so exciting to have the new roof and the church building and the air conditioning done!

Other exciting news concerns our Mission Church of St. Hilda’s in Spences Bridge. On March 23, Bishop Clara attended our formal Covenant signing service, where St. Alban’s and St. Hilda’s agreed to love and support each other. St. Alban’s will continue to have weekly services in Ashcroft, and St. Hilda’s will have a once per month Holy Communion service at 3 p.m. in the former school building.

Dates are posted on the website of The Territory of the People (under “Find-a-church”) at https://www.territoryofthepeople.ca/. All are invited to attend any of the services and check out this loving relationship.

To top this off, on May 25, St. Hilda’s had its very first baptism, which I presided over. It was, as we shared, a first baptism for both of us, and more than 30 people from St. Hilda’s and St. Alban’s were in attendance.

There is something very special about baptizing an adult. Many blessings on your journey with Jesus, the Christ, Dixie!
