The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is in mourning after the passing of one of its beloved canines.

“We’re saddened to share the news of the death of retired police service dog (PSD) Cain,” the police detachment announced on Facebook Monday, Oct. 23.

“PSD Cain spent his entire eight-year career protecting the communities and residents of the North Okanagan and he aided in the tracking and apprehension of countless criminals.”

The RCMP said Cain was at the forefront of many investigations.

“Cain also led the way in finding and helping many lost or missing people. Our heart goes out to his family and his friends and handler during this difficult time and we hope the memories of their adventures together bring some comfort.

“Good boy Cain. Rest in peace. You will be missed dearly.”
