Han Sim bought a Lotto 6/49 ticket on a whim on July 5 while on a coffee run with his son. He soon discovered he was a $1 million winner.
After sharing the news with his wife, he told his two sons and daughter-in-law.
"I said we’ll go to Harrison Hot Springs together and have a good dinner," Sim stated.
Sim was sopping for groceries when he searched his numbers online. He had matched three numbers and matched two Extra numbers, scoring him a $1 million win.
Following his celebratory dinner, Sim planned to go on family holiday using his winnings and to help his sons with their mortgages.
How did it feel to win $1 million?
"I think it will feel more real once I deposit [the cheque] at the bank!," Sim said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods in Madison Centre in Burnaby. To date this year, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $31 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
