Update: 2:26 p.m.

Popkum firefighters are clearing the scene and returning to the station.

Popkum firefighters have been dispatched to the scene of a crash on westbound Highway 1 at about 2 p.m. on Thursday (July 10) afternoon.

A motorcycle reportedly collided with the back of a parked vehicle near Herrling Island, a notoriously crash-heavy stretch of the highway in the Popkum-Rosedale area.

The B.C. Ambulance Service and local RCMP are on the scene. Popkum firefighters reported possible head injuries. There are no air ambulances expected to the area at this time.

Motorists should use particular caution heading through this area as traffic remains very slow while emergency crews are at work.

More to come.
