A repeat offender was apprehended after a lengthy dog track, Quesnel RCMP said in a news release.
On Monday, Dec. 16 at around 4:44 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle. Less than an hour later, police located the vehicle at the Walmart parking lot with the driver still inside.
After Mounties attempted to apprehend the driver, he accelerated the car and struck an RCMP vehicle before fleeing at a high speed through the crowded parking lot, Mounties said.
The vehicle was later reported to have gone off the road in Kersley, 23.5 km south of Quesnel, and the driver had fled on foot. RCMP called in Police Dog Services who attended and conducted a lengthy track of the suspect. The 30-year-old man was found in a barricaded shed and taken into police custody after a brief struggle.
"The suspect is well known to police. He was recently released on conditions for a similar offence that required electronic monitoring but was found to be breaching his conditions as he removed his ankle monitor shortly after being released," said Sgt. Clay Kronebusch.
Quesnel RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed or has video or dash cam footage from the interaction in the parking lot to contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
