Port Alberni’s Rotary Colour Fest is back this July

More activities and food trucks will be there at this year's event

The Rotary Colour Fest returns for a second year in a row on July 19 at Blair Park in Port Alberni.

Community members can take part in a 2.5 km walk, as well as join in activities throughout the day.

More than 250 people participated in the event last year organized by the Rotary Club of Port Alberni.

“This will definitely bring the community together to have some fun,” said organizer Randy Grixti.

The club also implemented feedback from participants last year on what they hope to see this time.

“This year, we made a strong effort to have additional activities ... such as games, prizes and food trucks,” said Grixti.

“We are going to have a DJ and live music, so it is an opportunity to get together and raise money for youth programs in Port Alberni,” he added.

The Rotary Club supports students, youth and families across Alberni Valley.

“We do a breakfast program at local schools, provide bursaries for high school students to go to college, but we also have other programs that we do throughout the community,” Grixti said.

Those who want to participate in the walk are encouraged to register on their website ahead of time as supply packages and goodie bags have to be pre-ordered.

The festival part of the event is free for all to attend.

“This is something we have added to the community, and we are hoping to make this bigger and better than last year. Hopefully this will be a long-term event we will have each year,” he said.
