Legion Br. 293 honours veterans with dinner

Port Alberni branch holds dinner as close to D-Day anniversary as possible

On Sunday, June 8, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 293 held its annual veterans dinner.

The branch tries to hold its dinner as close to the anniversary of D-Day, June 6, as possible. Veterans of all branches of the military are invited to this sit-down dinner hosted by the legion.

Legion members Bruce Proudfoot and Sandi Paterson have been the MCs of this event for many years. Following the meet and greet and dinner, Proudfoot led everyone in the singing of old war songs.

When attendance of the various military groups was taken the number of Army vets outnumbered the Airforce and Navy vets by two.

New this year at the dinner was Tristan Thompson of the West Coast Highlanders Pipes and Drums. He played a few tunes, much to the delight of all present. The traditional cutting of the donated cake from Quality Foods was done by Legion president Roy Buchanan and honorary president, Winnie Koal.
