The Florida Panthers are once again Stanley Cup champions.

Sam Reinhart scored four times, leading the Panthers to a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final Tuesday in Sunrise, Fla.

With the victory, the Panthers won the best-of-seven series in six games, one year after beating the Oilers in seven games in last year’s Cup Final.

Keith Tkachuk had the other goal for the Panthers, who became the first team to repeat since the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. Vasily Podkolzin scored for the Oilers.

“We’ve had guys stepping up all post-season long,” said Reinhart after the game. “It’s as good as the first one.”

Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves to earn the win in goal. Stuart Skinner made 20 stops for Edmonton.

Florida’s Sam Bennett, who had 15 post-season goals, earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs.

Florida opened the scoring 4:36 into the first period. After pouncing on a turnover by Edmonton’s Evan Bouchard outside the Oilers’ blue-line, Reinhart stepped around Mattias Ekholm and beat Skinner for his eighth goal of the playoffs.

Tkachuk made it 2-0 at 19:14 of the first, taking a pass from Eetu Luostarinen and beating Skinner over the glove with a shot from the deep slot. Tkachuk has eight goals in the post-season.

Shots after the first period favoured the Panthers, 10-9.

Reinhart scored again 17:31 into the second period after a long stretch of sustained pressure, when a pass from Aleksander Barkov deflected off his skate and past Skinner.

Edmonton held a 20-18 shots-on-goal advantage after 40 minutes.

In the third, Reinhart completed his hat trick into an empty net at 13:26 as the Oilers desperately tried to claw back into the game by pulling Skinner for an extra attacker. He added another empty-netter at 14:55 to complete his spectacular night.

Podkolzin knocked in a rebound at 15:18 to foil Bobrovsky’s shutout bid.

NOTES: The Panthers became just the eighth team to earn a Cup-clinching win on home ice in consecutive seasons and first since the Oilers in 1987 and 1988… The Panthers are the first team to oust the same opponent in the Final in consecutive years since the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins in 1977 and 1978… No Canadian-based team has won the Cup since the Canadiens in 1993… The last player to score four goals in a Cup Final game was Montreal’s Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard in 1957… There were no power-play chances in Tuesday’s Game 6.
