Vernon's Cassandra Brown helped lead Canada to the quarterfinals at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2025 Friday in Mongolia.

Brown had eight points to lead all scorers as Team Canada defeated Japan 18-6 in a dominating play-in game performance.

Canada will face Spain in the quarters at 2:25 a.m. Pacific Saturday, June 28. The game can be viewed on CBC Sports or YouTube.

Paige Crozon from Humboldt, Sask., had 12 rebounds for Canada, which dropped its final two preliminary round games Wednesday to go 2-2, finishing third in Pool C (Japan was second in Pool B).

Canada opened play Wednesday with a hard-fought 14-13 loss against France that saw multiple lead changes throughout. Brown paced the team with six points, but an injury to forward Saicha Grant-Allen of Hamilton midway through the game disrupted Canada’s rhythm and slowed their momentum down the stretch.

In their second outing, Canada struggled to find its footing in a 16-14 loss to Hungary.
