Criminal code offences are up for the first quarter of 2025, according to a recent report from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.
The quarterly policing report for 2025 will be presented at the upcoming Vernon council meeting on Monday, May 12 by Supt. Blake MacLeod.
Criminal code offences saw a 12.06 per cent uptick from the first quarter of 2024 (1666 vs. 1867). Total calls for service are right around what they were a year ago, with 20 fewer calls (6246 in 2024, 6226 in 2025).
Violent offences are up 7.8 per cent, with the notable increase being in Enderby and Coldstream. In first quarter of 2024, Enderby had 25 violent offences. In 2025, there were 52. And in Coldstream in 2024, there were 13 compared to 28 now.
According to the report, there are 12 prolific offenders in the area that are currently being monitored.
"Of the 12, four are currently in custody and eight are not in custody," the report stated. "Of the eight not in custody, five reside or are known to frequent the City of Vernon, two reside in the north rural area and one relocated outside of our jurisdiction."
The full report will be read at the upcoming Monday council meeting.
