Melin, Hawkes bowl to bronze
Team B.C. has returned from a successful trip May 5-7 to the tenpin National Championships in Edmonton, Alta.
Junior boys action saw Team B.C. bowler Logan Melin of Duncan Lanes finish third after the round robin, with six wins to advance to the stepladder where he bowled to a hard-earned bronze medal.
Melin also joined bantam and senior boys from Richmond to earn gold in the combo teams event.
On the girls' side, Duncan's Penelope Hawkes took four of her 12 matches for a sixth-place finish overall.
Hawkes was the bantam bowler on medal-winning Team B.C. combo team that included junior and senior players from Richmond and Kelowna, respectively.
"Our girls team fought hard but lost in a three-way roll-off with Southern Ontario and Manitoba with the Ontario team claiming bronze," said coach Bob Linde.
Duncan bowler national champion
Already the provincial champion, Nathan Wymore brought home the 2025 national five-pin bowling championship title back to Duncan Lanes after the event May 20-24 in Regina, Sask. It's just his third year back in the game after 15 years off — his home alley closed its doors in 2007. Wymore beat out bowlers from Alberta and Manitoba in the end to become the new Canadian Open Men’s Singles Champion.

“The BC Blue vs Gold Series is the best standard of rugby we can provide to senior female athletes in B.C.," said Rugby Canada Senior Women’s XVs national team head coach Kevin Rouet. "These games are an important part of the pathway for athletes to access the Canadian National Senior Women’s program or Canada Select team. I am very excited to see athletes playing in a multi-game format and showing consistency in performance in these high-standard games.”
