Two Chilliwack volleyball players have landed themselves bronze medals at this year’s Volleyball Canada National Championship.
Ben Coton and Parker Rahe were in Edmonton from May 23-26 where their Abbotsford-based club, the Jr. Cascades, took home a third-place finish in the Boy’s U16 Division 1 Championships.

The boys started their run on a strong note, going undefeated in their three opening-day matches. Day two was a bit of a different story as the club was victorious in just one of its three matches.
Their record was strong enough to book them a spot in the quarter-final where they went on to dismantle the Pakmen Volleyball Club out of Mississauga, ON in straight sets. The victory saw them headed for the semi-final where they were beaten by the Element One club out of Delta.
The loss had the Jr. Cascades taking on the Central Alberta Kings Volleyball Club for the bronze medal.
The Cascades put on a strong showing, cruising to the bronze medal in straight sets to close out their season.
Two other Chilliwack athletes were also present as Peyton Veenstra and Abbie Mathieson took the trip to Edmonton with their Surrey-based Raincity U16 girl’s team.
Like the boys, Raincity got off to a hot start going 3-0 in their opening day of competition, before faltering to a 1-2 record on the second day. The girls found themselves in the semi-final where they were bested by the Titan’s Volleyball Club out of Toronto.
With no consolation match on the girl’s side, tie-breakers saw the ladies fall to 11th in the final standings.
