3 Chilliwack players among 6 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds selected in WHL Prospects Draft

Chilliwack continues to produce some brilliant hockey talent and three more local players are ready to showcase theirs on a bigger stage.

Twelve B.C. players were selected in the WHL Prospects draft on Thursday evening (May 9) with the U15 AAA Fraser Valley Thunderbirds boasting six selections — three from Chilliwack — to lead the way.

Chilliwack’s Kolton Herfst was the first selection out of B.C. with the Thunderbirds captain being taken in the second round (37th overall) by the Victoria Royals.

Herfst finished second in scoring among defenders with nine goals and 26 assists, amassing a total of 36 points. He tallied another five points during his team’s run to the U15 AAA championship.

Riley Charlton was next off the board being selected in the fifth round (94th overall) by the Vancouver Giants.

The 6-foot-2 forward finished sixth in scoring among skaters collecting 15 goals and 25 assists for a total of 40 points through his 30 games played. The Chilliwack product added another four assists en-route to the Thunderbirds’ championship.

The final selection was Chilliwack’s Davin Chyld going 176th overall with the Prince George Cougars snagging him in the eighth round.

The netminder was named a U15 All-Star for the 2023-2024 season and finished the campaign with a 13-2-1 record to go along with a favourable 1.12 goals against average.

The remaining three Thunderbirds selected were Lucas Wiercioch (Mission), Tristan Anderlini (Langley) and Maysen Devries (Abbotsford).
