UPDATE: Wildfire between Vernon-Slocan highway and Whatshan Lake extinguished

BC Wildfire Service suspects it is lightning caused

UPDATE July 4:

The Barnes Creek wildfire is out.

BC Wildfire Service's update Friday morning more accurately estimated the size of the fire to be .03 hectares.

By the afternoon, the fire was removed from the map.

ORIGINAL July 3:

Lightning is the suspected cause of a spot-sized fire burning near Whatshan Lake.

BC Wildfire Service says the blaze is .009 hectares near Barnes Creek. It is in the forested area between the the Vernon-Slocan Highway 6 and Whatshan Lake.

The fire was discovered Wednesday, July 2 and is classified as out of control.
