Sikh Games Canada: Celebrating Sport, Culture, and Community at Tamanawis Park

Tournament runs June 26- 29 with matches from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The 17th International Lions Cup Field Hockey Tournament is taking place this weekend as part of Sikh Games Canada at Tamanawis Park (12601 - 64 Avenue).

"The Lions Cup International Tournament is an annual field hockey event proudly organized by Surinder Lions Field Hockey Club. Every year, this prestigious tournament brings together top men's, women's, and youth teams from around the world for an unforgettable weekend of world-class hockey, sportsmanship, and community spirit," reads the event website. 

The tournament runs from June 26 to 29, with matches taking place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Teams from Spain, Argentina, and the United States have flown in for the tournament. Field hockey Canada men's and women national teams are also participating in the games. 

The tournament consists of men's competitive, women's, U16 boys, U14 boys, U12, U10, social and men's premier championship divisions. 

The Lions Cup Field Hockey Tournament in 2008 and grew into the Sikh Games in 2024. During the first Sikh Games in 2024, over 1000 athletes competed in six different sports. This year's tournament will also include volleyball, soccer, wrestling and basketball games.
