After hearing some discontent with how the Sicamous Recreation Centre is run by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), Sicamous council is stepping in.

In her report to council at the Nov. 27 meeting, Mayor Colleen Anderson said she had introduced a notice of motion for the Dec. 13 CSRD board regarding Sicamous taking on the responsibility of managing the rec centre. The motion will be to have staff start discussions with the District of Sicamous to negotiate the terms of an agreement that would see the DOS take over the administration and operations of the rec centre.

If the board doesn't support the motion, she added, Sicamous will formally "serve notice of a statutory service review" that would be served to the CSRD on Dec. 17.

"Council feels that it's really important that the district run the recreation centre," she said. "It's right here in town, we think there's more things that we can add to it and it's just in our community so that was our feelings with that moving forward."
