Two fire departments used rural water supply tactics to tackle a large debris pile fire in Agassiz over this past weekend.
Agassiz fire chief Gerald Basten told The Observer that the Popkum and Agassiz fire departments responded to a fire that was approximately 35 metres wide and long in a field off Bridge Road in Agassiz on Sunday, June 15.
The fire departments deployed heavy equipment to access the remote site and to create a guard around the fire and prevent its spread. Firefighters utilized a large-diameter hose as well as water tenders that ultimately rushed 135,000 litres of water to the area.
