A small wildfire broke out near Morris Lake north of Harrison Mills on Tuesday (June 17) morning.
The B.C. Wildfire Service indicates a single firefighting crew has been dispatched to handle a 0.1-hectare wildfire off the southern shore of Morris Lake off of Morris Valley Road. Since the fire is classified as under control, the BCWS does not anticipate the fire will move beyond its current boundaries as long as conditions continue to hold. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
The Morris Lake fire marks the second wildfire in the Agassiz-Harrison area this season; about 1.5 hectares of land have burned as a result of local wildfires as of Tuesday morning.
As of publication, there are 98 active wildfires in B.C. About 75 per cent of the wildfires in the province this year have been caused by lightning.
