Anonymous Art Show
This year’s Anonymous Art Show is now on at the Ashcroft HUB, with works on display in the HUB gym, and online at the Ashcroft Hub Facebook page, until 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. All bidding will take place online, although HUB staff can place bids for people who are unable to do so themselves. Board game afternoon
The Ashcroft Literacy Program and the Village of Cache Creek are hosting another board game event at the Cache Creek Community Hall (basement meeting room) on Friday, Feb. 28 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This fun, free family event will feature games, snacks, refreshments, and door prizes, and all are welcome (children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult).
Softball registration
Cache Creek Minor Softball is still accepting registrations for the 2025 season, and is particularly looking for players in the U13/15/17 boys and U15 girls divisions. Payments are due by Feb. 28 to take advantage of the best rates, as late fees will be effective as of March 1. 70 Mile pancake breakfast
The 70 Mile Community Club’s monthly pancake breakfast takes place on the first Saturday of the month, and the next one is on March 1 at the 70 Mile Community Hall. The by-donation event, which runs from 9 to 11 a.m., features door prizes and is open to everyone, so come on over and bring your appetite. For more information, contact Ken Huber at (250) 945-9914.
Engineering workshop
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is hosting a free workshop for female and non-binary high school students in grades 8–12 who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The workshop involves creating a working robot and touring the TRU Makerspace.
Students get an overview of engineering, including the TRU program, and career talks by current TRU female engineering students, faculty, and alumni. The workshop takes place on the Kamloops campus in Old Main (OM 1791) on Saturday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will construct and code small robots; explore virtual reality equipment; make buttons and stickers; test podcasting skills; hear from alumni; and learn about different engineering disciplines, and lunch is included. Bingo
The Ashcroft Legion has bingo nights on the first Wednesday of the month, and the next session is coming up on March 5. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. Please note that this is a 19+ event.
CADOSA meeting
Want to find out more about the Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsman Association (CADOSA)? All are welcome to attend their regular meetings, which take place on the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the basement of the Clinton Legion. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 5.
Suddenly One
The Suddenly One: Building Connections program has returned, and takes place every other Thursday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Ashcroft Library (private meeting room at the back). The next meeting will be on Thursday, March 6.
Suddenly One is for men and women of all ages who suddenly find themselves alone. The event will feature coffee, tea, and conversation, with people able to share their thoughts, stories, and experiences surrounding loss and living alone. There is no agenda; topics and activities are up to the participants, all in an accessible, respectful, and confidential space.
There is no cost to take part, and participants can attend as many or as few sessions as they would like. For more information, email ashcroft.hospice@gmail.com.
Musicians wanted
Desert Daze — the Best Little Fest in the West — will be back for its 15th year in September, and has put out a call for musicians and bands who are interested in taking part.
Desert Daze is a multi-genre music festival that features and promotes local musicians and bands and those from further afield. Anyone interested in performing can fill out a quick and easy application form at https://bit.ly/4haNx7T, but hurry: the deadline for applications is March 15.
Armchair travel
Experience a taste of Greece at the Ashcroft HUB’s next Armchair Travel event, taking place on Thursday, March 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, and attendees will be treated to a fabulous dinner of Greek food. Clinton Citizen of the Year
The Spirit of Clinton is seeking nominations for the 2024 Clinton Citizen of the Year. Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for the community? Someone who embodies the Spirit of Clinton through their Dedication, kindness, and service? Recognize them by nominating them as the village’s Citizen of the Year for 2024. Nomination forms can be found online at www.village.clinton.bc.ca (paper copies are available at the village office), and submissions must be made by March 28.
Ukulele social circle
Join the ukulele circle of friends every Thursday in Ashcroft from 2 to 3 p.m. (venue to be determined). The cost is $5 per session, which includes lessons, and some ukuleles are available. You can check online sites such as Facebook Marketplace to purchase your own from $15 or up, and ukuleles can also be borrowed for free through the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library system; visit your local library for details.
