Deliveries of the Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal will resume as normal on Thursday, Dec. 19 as the Canada Post strike comes to an end.
Last week Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the 55,000 picketing employees back to work within days if the tribunal determines a deal wasn’t doable before the end of the year. With the board determining Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers were unlikely to reach a deal, postal workers were ordered back to work on Tuesday, Dec. 17, with regular mail deliveries expected to resume on Thursday, Dec. 19.
The postal strike interrupted the delivery of some subscriber editions of the Journal. While some were able to be delivered as usual, others were held at the Journal office in Ashcroft for pick-up.
Publisher Martina Dopf thanks the Journal's readers for their patience during this time.
“We sincerely thank our subscribers for their patience over the past four weeks and for taking the time to pick up their papers," Dopf said. “Your understanding and support mean so much to us!”
Dopf said that regular postal delivery of the papers should resume with the Dec. 19 edition of the Journal, barring any delays as Canada Post gets back up and running. All subscriber papers that have not been picked up over the last four weeks will be kept at the Journal office until Friday, Jan. 10. After this, subscriber address labels will be removed and the remaining papers will be available (by donation) as fire starters.
Anyone with any questions is asked to contact the Journal at (250) 453-2261, or drop by the office on 4th Street in Ashcroft.
