100 Mile Fire Rescue extinguished a small wildland fire believed to be caused by arson within the District of 100 Mile House on Monday, May 5.
The fire was reported at 3:30 p.m. on Monday behind the 100 Mile House fire hall in a wooded area, with thin white smoke visible from Horse Lake Road. Members of the fire department responded swiftly and were able to contain and extinguish the fire, which is being investigated as a potential arson.
Fire chief Dave Bissat said the fire was located between Fraser Avenue and the gas pipeline. On arrival, his crew encountered a fire that measured roughly 100 feet by 50 feet.
"Firefighters quickly established a wet line around the perimeter and successfully extinguished the fire," Bissat said. "Twelve members responded to the incident."
Bissat said 100 Mile House RCMP also attended the scene and currently suspect that the fire resulted from an act of arson. Following this incident, Bissat noted he would like to remind the public to immediately call 911 if they see any signs of smoke or fire.
"Prompt reporting helps prevent fire spread and ensures a quick response," Bissat said.
