All Candidates’ Forum

The Ashcroft HUB is hosting an All Candidates’ Forum for the candidates in the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The forum will also be streamed live on the HUB Online Network’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

Soup’s On is hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner on Friday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Alban’s Anglican Church hall in Ashcroft (501 Brink Street). All are welcome to come and enjoy the by-donation meal and conversation with friends and neighbours, whether you are a regular visitor or are new to the program.

Haunted Market

The Historic Alexandra Lodge near Spuzzum is holding a “Haunted Market” from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and a Paranormal Evening from 8 p.m. to midnight. The market will feature artisans, oddities, and vintage vendors, as well as haunted selfie displays and the Fuzzy Pickle gourmet grill food truck. Come in costume and do some trick-or-treating, and do you dare venture into the “serial killer” RV?

TRU open house

Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops is throwing open its doors for an open house that starts at the Campus Activity Centre on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The free event is open to everyone. Prospective students can explore TRU’s academic programs and connect with faculty and staff, while families and community members can interact with university representatives and enjoy a variety of activities, including the Haunted Physics Lab, Solar Stargazing, and a Fun Zone featuring games, cotton candy, and photo opportunities with Wolfie, the WolfPack mascot. There will also be a barbecue and prize draws.

Casino night

The Ashcroft HUB is holding a 1920s Casino Night from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 (changed from Oct. 18). Tickets for the 19+ event are $20 each, and the evening will feature casino games, a 50/50 draw, snacks, prizes, a pay bar, and live music.

Put on your best flapper-era clothing and come on down to the HUB for a fun-filled night. Tickets can be purchased at the HUB office, or online at https://bit.ly/3XNKbiR. If there aren’t enough tickets sold by the end of the week, the event will be cancelled.

Falling for Art

The Thompson Nicola Shuswap chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is holding the 20th annual Falling for Art event from Oct. 22 to Nov. 2 at The Old Courthouse Cultural Centre in Kamloops (7 Seymour Street West). The event is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

View beautiful artwork from across the region, vote for the People’s Choice Award, and enjoy on-site art demonstrations. On Saturday, Oct. 26 there will be a special Music and Art event from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring local musician Mani Odubo, who will be debuting his new album Courtesy of David.

Clinton CiB Fall craft sale

The Clinton Communities in Bloom Beautification Society is holding its Fall craft sale on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clinton Memorial Hall.
In addition to vendors galore, with everything from sewing, quilting, and painting to jewellery, baking, jams and jellies and more, there will be door prizes and an on-site concession. Admission is by donation.

Santa parade

It’s time to start thinking about the annual Santa parade in Ashcroft, organized by the Ashcroft HUB, which is taking place on Friday, Dec. 6 starting at 6 p.m.

The theme of this year’s parade is “A Gingerbread Christmas”, and floats and entries from businesses, organizations, clubs, local governments, First Nations, and individuals are all welcome. There’s lots of time to work on your entry, but organizers would like to have a rough idea of how many floats will be taking part, so contact the HUB at office@ashcrofthub.com or call (250) 453-9177 to register (there is no fee for entries).
