A unique musical storytelling experience will come to Nanaimo this week.

The Well Tree, a three-person musical featuring an illuminated, hand-cranked scroll to tell a tale of remembering kinship, will be presented May 26 at St. Andrew's United Church.

According to a news release for the show, it tells the tale of a young woman “moving beyond the fog of isolation to meet songbirds, snails and ancient trees as she travels through these unravelling times, finding her way home.’

The Heartwood Trio group of Heidi Wilson, Willy Clemetson and Sarina Partridge are the actors, musicians and operators of the “crankie” papercut scroll, which was created by artist Jennifer Jones.

The trio will also host a community singing workshop in the afternoon on May 26. They will bring original, harmony-rich and accessible songs to teach, according to the news release. The workshop will be from 3-5 p.m. in the church hall and the musical performance will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The workshop costs $40 and the show is $33. Tickets for both events are $55 and youths under 18 pay half price. The release notes nobody will be turned away because they can't afford it, and said anyone who wants to attend but is inhibited by costs can e-mail sylvia@sylviahumble.ca

Tickets can be purchased from http://eventbrite.ca or at the door. The Heartwood Trio will also be in Comox on May 25, Duncan on May 28-29 and Victoria on May 31.
