LETTER: White Rock deserves a city hall to reflect its 'stature'

Plans for White Rock's new uptown community hub have hit a winning note for this reader

Editor,

I read with some excitement the article in the Peace Arch News about the new city hall, complete with library and other city required agencies; the housing above is simply a bonus.

I must admit I have not always been a fan of highrises, but we have them, and one more at Russell and Johnston Road I can’t see as a problem. Oh, yes, there will be a bit more traffic at that intersection, but when I drive by the existing city hall/library there are not a lot of cars to worry about.

White Rock is not the seaside resort with a steam train coming through each day; White Rock is a vibrant city full of people who live here for the joy of it.

I have lived in White Rock or just across 16th Avenue for 69 years, and oh my, have there been changes. It was inevitable that White Rock would grow — the beach, the pier, the ocean views attract people — and the changes haven’t all been bad. Most have been positive and enhanced living here.

Since that first article in the paper I have seen a lot of negative responses and felt that a positive response was needed.

I truly hope the project goes through and White Rock has a city hall to reflect its stature and importance in the Lower Mainland!
