LETTER: Is there really more racism in Surrey schools?

Anti-racism work is the wrong use of Surrey school funding, this writer says

Editor,

Is there more racism in Surrey’s schools or just more people working hard to find it?

That’s my takeaway after learning that the creation of a new manager of racial equity in the school district, despite crippling funding problems, has resulted in a massive increase in reports of racism.

The district hired a Seattle DEI firm two years ago to find out if racism existed. What a shocker when the DEI people found real signals of potential racism and advised spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to begin a new anti-racism program.

None of us should be surprised now that the inevitable result is more racism reports than ever before. How about we spend the money on a real problem by funding special learning centres and helping kids with real issues.
