Fatal crash closes Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge

Highway closed from 287th Street to Jim Robson Way, with River Road to Hill Avenue also closed

Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident that happened early Friday morning, July 11, in Maple Ridge.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP officers responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle incident at 240th Street and Lougheed Highway.

The crash is believed to involve a single vehicle, which has resulted in a fatality, said police. A vehicle appeared to have been wrapped around a pole by the impact, near Bruce's Market.

Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services were already on scene, but no patients were transported to hospital.

The Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service team (ICARS) were called to assist with the investigation.

Initially, Lougheed Highway was shut down in both directions. Road closures are still currently in place, which include, Lougheed Highway eastbound between Jim Robson Way and 240th, and traffic is down to one lane westbound between Jim Robson Way and 240th.

The road closure is anticipated to be in place, for several hours this morning. Drivers can avoid the crash scene by using Highway 1 or Dewdney Trunk Road.
