PHOTOS: Surrey firefighters battle 2-alarm blaze on hot, sunny Sunday

Restaurant, residence affected by fire

Surrey fire crews were busy fighting a two-alarm blaze Sunday afternoon near the Langley border.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon (June 8), Surrey firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a commercial building housing a restaurant and market on the ground floor and a residence above near 60 Avenue and 196 Street, a freelance photographer at the scene said.

The blaze quickly spread through the top floor of the structure and through the roof, and a second alarm was called for additional firefighters and apparatus, the photographer noted.

Two aerial ladders operated from above, attacking and knocking down the fire until it was safe to send crews inside for full extinguishment, he reported, adding crews were working in extremely high temperatures while they fought the fierce blaze.
