The City of Surrey has wrapped up its 2025 “Seniors Week.”

The City of Surrey wrapped up its annual Seniors Week on June 7. According to the city, it came to an “engaging” and “successful” conclusion.

Held June 1-7, the week is presented as a celebration of seniors and it includes a lot of free events and activities spread across the city. The goal is to promote staying active and staying connected.

“Our community thrives when everyone has the opportunity to stay active, engaged, and connected,” Mayor Brenda Locke said in a press release sent out by the city. “Seniors Week has always been a wonderful opportunity for residents aged 55-plus to try new sports, build friendships, and embrace healthy living.”

The mayor added she was “thrilled” the city could support so many citizens during the “celebration."

This year, the city had something they called a “Try-it Passport.” The idea was that seniors could collect stamps at different activity sites around town for a chance to win a one-year recreation pass. Some of the free activities included: power walking, circuit training, badminton, and others.

According to the city, the idea for promoting healthy pursuits was to “remove barriers and encourage seniors to explore new ways to stay fit and have fun.”

The week-long event ended with a Health and Wellness Forum held June 7. More than 125 people attended the day-long event that had presentations, demonstrations, activities, and age-friendly community engagement booths. Some forums covered topics such as, staying socially connected, elder law, community safety, virtual health care, technology, and common computer myths.

According to the release, “Surrey’s Age Friendly Strategy prioritizes initiatives that support, engage, and ensure the health and well-being of seniors, reflecting the City's commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community for all ages,”
