8 new 'signature' Surrey experiences that tourists and locals might like

'Group tourism' bookings include whisky, wine, birdwatching, cupcake making and more in Surrey

Eight Surrey-area independent businesses have signed on for a new Discover Surrey promotion that promises eight "unforgettable, locally crafted experiences" in the city.

The destination marketing agency's latest initiative is aimed at tourists, for sure, and might also appeal to locals who want to see and do more in Surrey.

Developed over the past two years, the eight curated "group tourism" experiences feature whisky, wine, birdwatching, cupcake making, Bollywood dancing, "Spice Trail" restaurants, honeybees, a "Birds and Brews" adventure and sound healing.

Prices vary, as do locations and seasonal availability for some of the Signature Experiences, designed to "immerse you in the stories, flavours, and rhythms of Surrey," according to a post on discoversurreybc.com, which has links for bookings.

"Every experience is a chance to meet the people behind the place and connect more deeply with one of Canada's most diverse cities," the website trumpets.

Surrey businesses involved are the Steve Watts-owned Mainland Whisky, Shiamak dance company with its Bollywood Dance Experience, celebrity baker Jujhar Mann's Mann & Co Bakeshop, Vinoscenti Vineyards, birding expert Kris Cu and Crescent Coffee House, Lise Hines' Chew On This Tasty Tours and four restaurants on the city's so-called "Spice Trail," and Healing Sounds.

To bring the eight experiences to life, the Discover Surrey team collaborated with consultant Joe Veneto, a contractor who works with destinations across the globe.

“This is an exciting time for Surrey as we are providing diverse and engaging experiences that suit all types of visitors, from families to couples or friends,” Jenny Mourad, Discover Surrey marketing director, said in a news release June 17.

“Thousands of Canadians are now choosing to travel within the country, and discovering Surrey's new Signature Experiences is a perfect way to enjoy an unforgettable trip, while supporting Canadian.”
