The president of a local farm museum is calling it "Chilliwack’s best kept secret."
The Atchelitz Threshermen's Association is having an open house and member drive on July 21 where folks can check out the pioneer village and farm museum, which is one of Canada’s largest volunteer-owned-and-run museums, said president Ray Ramey.
"It has a collection so large it would take three hours just to see it, and you still might miss many things," he said. "The Atchelitz Threshermen's Association has been building its collection for over 40 years. With all the volunteer contributions it has become a B.C. destination bringing in people from everywhere."
Ramey joined the association 14 years ago and has been president for 10 years.
"I enjoy working with the members figuring out what we need to do to improve the site."
But, they have always been short people when it comes to staffing the museum and running the kitchen for events, hence the drive to bring in more volunteers.
"We are getting busier and need more people, museum curators, kitchen help, museum staff and all-round help around the site," he said, adding that they have a great relationship with Sardis Kiwanis who have helped greatly.
"Why become a member? Why not? It is an excellent place to meet people from all over the world, an excellent place to socialize, and keep your mind busy problem-solving," Ramey said.
The open house and member drive for the Atchelitz Threshermen's Association is on Monday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are located at 44146 Luckakuck Way, beside Chilliwack Heritage Park.
