A group of Leos – who serve alongside members of Lions International clubs – will use a giant handmade puppet to tell a story called 'Head, Body, Legs' during a community storytime event in Chilliwack on May 17.

A group of youth will use a giant handmade puppet to bring a tale to life during a special community storytime in Chilliwack.

The 12- to 18-year-olds, known as Leos, serve alongside members of various Lions International clubs in B.C., Washington State, and Idaho. The Leos will be in Chilliwack, along with the Lions, for their annual convention May 15 to 18.

On May 17, Leos from both sides of the border will come together and use a huge puppet they created to tell a story called 'Head, Body, Legs'.

"The fable takes the audience on a journey as they discover the benefits of collaboration," said Rosemary Walkup, chair of the Leos for the district.

The story is inspired by Liberian storyteller Won-Ldy Paye, author Margaret H. Lippert, and illustrator Julie Paschkis.

"We have been in communication with the (three) to give credit to their work and share how they have inspired this retelling by our Leos. They have offered their support and encouragement to our Leos."

This free event will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. outside on the lawn at Salish Park. In the event of inclement weather, the presentation will be moved to the Chilliwack Curling Club (9145 Corbould St.) to accommodate for the height of the puppet.
