While the NBA season recently wrapped up, locals will soon get to enjoy plenty of B.C. basketball action, with the University of the Fraser Valley recently releasing details on the upcoming 2025-26 season.

The men's and women's basketball schedules have the initial UFV tip-off taking place on Oct. 24 against UBC.

Last season resulted in very different outcomes for the men's and women's squads, with the men suffering a less-than-stellar record of 9-11, while the women's team finished in second place among Canada West Pacific division teams with a 15-5 record.

For the women, it will be a rematch of the top two Pacific division contenders from last year to open up this new season, with UBC only suffering two losses last year.

Joining the women's basketball team this year is:

• Carmen Folka, guard (Chilliwack)

• Nicole Folka, guard (Chilliwack)

• Jada Paquin, forward (Chilliwack)

• Mya Buttar, guard/forward (Abbotsford)

• Jessica Parkinson, forward (Coquitlam)

• Priya Toor, guard (Delta)

The men's team also has several newcomers, including:

• Bennett O'Connor, point guard (Fall City, Wash.)

• Devan Jagpal, guard (Surrey)

• Isaiah Lee, point guard (Chilliwack)

• Matteo Kells, centre (Foothills, Alta.)

Although O'Connor and Kells are new to UFV, they've already notched plenty of post-secondary time on the court.

O'Connor played 29 games for Washington's Skagit Valley College last season, where he averaged 15 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Kells only played four games with the Olds College Broncos last season, but in that time, he managed to average 5.3 points, 0.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game.
