The Columbia Bible College Bearcats women's basketball team has signed another local talent, as they announced the commitment of Yale Secondary's Kendal Dueck for the 2025-26 season.
The 5-8 guard helped lead the Yale Lions to a sixth place finish in the 4A senior girls basketball provincial championships earlier this year and also a fifth place finish in 2024. She played her club basketball with the Port Coquitlam-based Excel Basketball.
"Kendal is a talented guard who has had a lot of success with her past high school and club teams," stated Bearcats head coach Taylor Claggett. "She has the ability to attack the hoop and score in the paint, and also shoot from the perimeter. Kendal is a very gritty player and will fit well into our team culture."
Dueck and the Lions finished the 2024-25 Eastern Valley Athletic Association 4A regular season in second place with a record of 9-2 and placed third in the EVAA championships to qualify for the provincials. She also helped the Lions capture the 2023 Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament senior girls crown and place second in 2024.
She joins a CBC Bearcats team that captured the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national title in March. It capped off a historic season for the club that saw them also earn a Pacwest silver medal and finish second in the conference with the program's best-ever record of 19-3.
One familiar player on the Bearcats for Dueck will be her sister Julie Dueck, who had her rookie season in 2024-25. Julie, also a Yale grad, had a strong first season with the Bearcats, starting 21 games and averaging 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. She also shot 39.2 per cent from the field. Julie exploded for 21 points against the Okanagan Coyotes on Nov. 23, 2024.
Samara Mason is another Yale grad who played with the Bearcats last season and averaged 6.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
The Pacwest regular season typically begins in October and runs until February.
