The Abbotsford Canucks watch parties return this week with Calder Cup Finals games.
The AHL club announced that The Canadian Brewhouse and Grill at Highstreet Shopping Centre will once again host official watch parties this week, as the Canucks head to North Carolina to battle the Charlotte Checkers for the AHL's top prize.
Watch parties are scheduled for Friday's (June 13) game one and Sunday's (June 15) game two. Friday's game begins at 4 p.m. Abbotsford time, while Sunday sees the teams get going at 1 p.m. It's likely that establishment would also host watch parties for games six and seven, but those may not be necessary.
Previous watch parties have included ticket and merchandise giveaways, a live DJ and an in-game host for the festivities.
The Canadian Brewhouse and Grill is located at 3122 Mt. Lehman Rd. on the west side of Highstreet. The establishment opened its doors in 2016 and is a two-level unit with approximately 180 seats and a roof-top patio. The Abbotsford location was the second B.C. location when it opened. The Canadian Brewhouse and Grill brand entered the market with a location in Edmonton in 2002 and has expanded in the decades that followed.
Fans can also watch the games on the FloHockey app, but that comes with a monthly or annual fee. However, as reported yesterday, game one is being made available for free on FloHockey's Facebook, X and YouTube social media channels. Games will also be airing for radio listeners on Sportsnet 650.
The series then shifts to Abbotsford for games three and four on Tuesday (June 17) and Thursday (June 19). Game five, if necessary, would also occur in Abbotsford on Saturday (June 21). Tuesday and Thursday start times are 7 p.m., while Saturday's begins at 6 p.m.
Abbotsford enters the Calder Cup Finals after a 4-2 series win over the Texas Stars in the Western Conference Finals. The Canucks clinched the west and captured the coveted Robert W. Clarke Trophy with a 4-2 win in game six on Sunday (June 8). The Canucks also eliminated the Colorado Eagles 3-2, the Coachella Valley Firebirds 3-1 and the Tucson Roadrunners 2-1.
Charlotte opened the playoffs with a 3-2 series win over the Providence Bruins and then swept the two-time defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears 3-0. They qualified for the Calder Cup Finals with a 4-0 sweep of the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals.
This series marks the first time ever that Abbotsford and Charlotte have played each other. Continue visiting abbynews.com for ongoing coverage of the series.
