Under David Eby’s NDP government, British Columbia has become the least affordable place to live in Canada.
The province now faces the highest housing costs in North America, with rents that continue to climb, alongside the steepest gas prices and taxes on the continent. Groceries have seen nearly a 30 per cent increase, leaving families struggling to keep up.
Despite these challenges, the NDP has introduced 33 new or increased taxes, including a carbon tax that has more than doubled, making life more difficult for British Columbians.
Yet the NDP had multiple opportunities to make a difference. They could have embraced BC United’s plan to address the cost-of-living crisis head-on, but instead, they chose to stay on their current path: a path that continues to burden families with rising costs and few solutions.
BC United has laid out several clear and practical plans to provide relief. These include eliminating the provincial fuel tax, which would save drivers up to 15 cents per litre on gasoline and diesel, and rolling back Eby’s planned carbon tax hikes. We’ve also committed to removing the carbon tax from all home heating fuels and from on-farm fuel use, ensuring that essential services remain affordable.
Additionally, we will cancel the NDP’s “CleanBC” plan, a policy set to eliminate 200,000 jobs and reduce B.C.’s economy by $28 billion over the next decade, costing families $11,000 every year.
Furthermore, BC United is focused on long-term solutions that go beyond immediate financial relief. We are rolling out plans to make housing more affordable, ensuring that British Columbians can afford to live in their communities. We’re also committed to expanding access to affordable childcare, recognizing that families need more support in managing both their budgets and their time.
In times like these, government should be working to lessen the financial burden not adding to it.
United, we will fix it.
