What an incredible time of year this is, when our region showcases its generosity, volunteerism, and Christmas spirit.
Thank you to those who have dropped by the Salvation Army kettles and donated and thank you to the group of secret Santas from the South Cariboo who once again donated a truckload of toys to children whose families are facing hardship.
Cheers to all of the individuals, groups, and organizations out there that are doing amazing work to spread joy this holiday season.
I have spoken with many seniors that are having a tough time making ends meet this December – seniors that have become increasingly concerned about covering rising utility bills and grocery costs. They are genuinely happy and grateful to be receiving a little help.
Cariboo-Chilcotin has certainly been confronted with many challenges in the past year, including extreme flooding in Savona, serious wildfires to the south of Ashcroft, the Moose Valley fire at 108, and the very frightening fire situation that developed last summer in the River Valley Trail which threatened the community of Williams Lake.
Our first responders work hard every day to protect us from not only the obvious threats, but also from risks that frankly sometimes we don't even know exist!
I also want to acknowledge the hard work of my team this past year: Bev Marks in my 100 Mile House office, along with Jenny Huffman who was in my Williams Lake office but has recently started a new position with Williams Lake First Nation. I am welcoming in Kristen Weir, who has recently joined my constituency office. The work these women do for constituents is incredible and I can't thank them enough!
This is a time of year when some will need additional support. The resilience, dedication, and kindness of people living in Cariboo-Chilcotin is incredible! There truly is no better place on earth to live.
Please remember to check in on your neighbours and local seniors. Let's make the holiday season jolly and bright!
Merry Christmas!
