Not mentioned in the May 21 article about the 2024 Saanich Pulse survey was the fact that, along with Saanich residents feeling less satisfied with quality of life, safety, quality of services and affordability compared to 2021, the respondents also feel less satisfied with Saanich council itself.
It’s interesting that even though five times more residents completed the 2024 survey (than the previous survey), the mayor and council think the results are “not reflective of our municipality.”
Are you kidding me? This council just does not want to listen to residents. A prime example is the bike lanes on Mann Avenue. Those residents pleaded with council not to install bike lanes. So council had a meeting with them, and then just did what council wanted to do anyway. We are still waiting to see the revised Quadra and McKenzie Plan, but I am not hopeful the revised plans will be much different than the original draft.
Mayor and council feel “the survey is not representative of Saanich’s demographics.” I am not sure why they think a different demographic would produce different results, but regardless, they should definitely look hard at the results because more than likely, it is representative of the demographic that votes.
