Icy conditions have closed the Coquihalla Highway in both directions on Thursday morning.

The stretch of highway between Merritt and Hope closed around 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 14 due to a vehicle recovery taking place between Comstock Road (exit 276) and Coldwater Road (exit 256).

Multiple posts on the Coquihalla Road Reports (And Area) Facebook group stated the highway was closed and DriveBC confirmed the closure at 8:33 a.m.

A detour is available via Highway 5A and Highway 3. Traffic coming from Kamloops should travel on Highway 1.

DriveBC’s next update is scheduled for 10 a.m.

More to come.
