Clinton Makerspace starts a new year
A reminder that the not-for-profit organization Clinton Makerspace continues to meet each Monday in the David Stoddart School shop, 1203 Cariboo Avenue, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. with the exception of scheduled non-instructional days. Attendance to come and tinker is free, so why not check it out? If you find yourself interested, you may sign up to join the society as a member for $10.
Members of Clinton Makerspace use the shop to experiment with whatever projects they may be interested in working on. These projects could include wood or metal, be mechanical or ceramic, or even include 3D printing. The DSS shop also has options for vinyl cutting, electronic usage, robotics, or tinkering in any other discipline that creates a finished and tangible product.
Members are invited to post project ideas on the Facebook page (Clinton Makerspace), which is used by members as a communication forum. For any questions regarding the club, feel free to inquire by email at clintonmakerspace@gmail.com.
Updates from the Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsman Association
The Clinton and District Outdoor Sportsman Association (CADOSA) will host their next meeting on Wednesday, February 7 in the basement of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #194, 310 Le Bourdais Avenue. If you are interested in joining the group as a new member, or want to get a sense of what the club is all about, then make sure to mark the date on your calendar.
CADOSA meets on the first Wednesday of each month. This year’s membership dues are $40 for couples, $30 for singles, and $20 for seniors.
Don’t forget that CADOSA’s annual Ice Fishing Derby is coming up, and will take place on Sunday, February 11 at Beaver Dam Lake, beginning at dawn and wrapping up at noon. The entry fee is $10, and all fees will be awarded back to the winners of the derby in prize money. Hot dogs, coffee, and hot chocolate will be available on site for free, but a small concession of smokies and burgers will also be available.
“Art Exposed” exhibition calls on local artists for wildfire-inspired submissions
Thanks to funding from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD), the Kamloops Art Council has been able to create a new category in its Art Exposed regional exhibition to commemorate the impact of this summer’s wildfires on our region.
The new category hopes to showcase the hardships faced by local communities during the wildfires, but also highlight the resilience of both rural communities and municipalities when faced with adversity. With that in mind, a special $500 prize will be awarded for the best artwork with the theme of summer wildfires.
Now in its eighth year, Art Exposed is a community-centred visual arts exhibit unique to Kamloops but open to all residents of the TNRD. All emerging and established artists are invited to apply with their 2D and 3D artwork. The event offers the public a chance to both view and purchase local art in a variety of mediums: from paintings and sculptures to jewelry, pottery, photography, and more. There will be something for everyone, and a special youth category is available for artists aged 8 to 14.

Wine and Cheese Reception planned to honour 2017 Citizen of the Year
On Saturday, March 3 a Wine and Cheese Reception will be held at the Clinton Memorial Hall to celebrate the local volunteers who work continuously to positively impact our small Village.
The evening will also feature the announcement of Clinton’s 2017 Citizen of the Year award. The hall doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the event, but the evening will officially begin at 7 p.m.
