Jordell Anthony Sellars is expected to be sentenced in Williams Lake Provincial Court Wednesday, Oct. 25 for charges related to the shooting at the Williams Lake Stampede in 2022.
Originally, Sellars faced one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of discharge of a firearm with intent to wound or disfigure, one count possession of a firearm without a licence or registration and one count of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Fourteen months after the incident, Sellars pleaded guilty on Sept. 6, 2023 to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm without proper authorization or licensing.
Crown also accepted a plea to the lesser offence of reckless discharge of a firearm contrary to section 244.2(1).
Sellars has been in custody since his arrest just outside the grandstands moments after the shooting.
On Sunday, July 3, 2022, Sellars was arrested on scene shortly after a man was shot twice and a woman shot once in the entrance way above the grandstands as the final bull riding event got underway at the Stampede.
There were many witnesses to the incident, as there were vendors in the area and customers.
Additionally, thousands of people were in the grandstands at the time.
With directions from the rodeo announcer, the public calmly exited the grandstands through the lower level while RCMP and paramedics attended to the two people who were shot.
A publication ban was imposed on July 4, 2022 under section 517 of the Criminal Code which covers information arising during a bail hearing, as well as the reasons given by the judge, until the accused is discharged or, if ordered to stand trial, the trial has ended.
Sellars is also charged along with four other individuals with assault causing bodily harm on Nov. 10, 2022.
The offence is alleged to have occurred at or near Prince George, confirmed the BC Prosecution Service.
His next appearance on that charge is also on Oct. 25 in Prince George Provincial Court for arraignment.
As the matter is now before the court, the BCPS said it will have no further comment at this time.
Jointly accused with Sellars for the Nov. 10, 2022 incident are Shawn Abel Arsenault, Dean Orden, Otis Mecham, Braiden Josie Meck and Ryan David Patrick.
