Crews quickly extinguish multiple grass fires in north Kelowna

UPDATE: 5:11 p.m.

Fire crews were able to get a quick handle on multiple blazes that sparked in a field off Old Vernon Road, on Monday. 

The fires were first reported at about 4:45 p.m. and by 5:10 p.m. crews had knocked down the flames and were managing hot spots. 

Crews will be on scene for some time handling the hot spots. 


UPDATE: 5:08 p.m.

Emergency crews are battling multiple spot fires in a field off Old Vernon Road behind the Kelowna International Airport, Monday afternoon. 

The blazes were first reported at about 4:45 p.m. and multiple fire halls responded to the scene.

Flames and smoke can be seen rising from the area. 

While the fire has not crossed the road, RCMP have blocked Old Vernon. 

Farm workers in the area are also helping to extinguish the flames. 


A brush fire is being reported just north of the Kelowna International Airport near Old Vernon Road. 

Multiple emergency crews are responding to the area after four spot fires were spotted at about 4:45 p.m.

Plumes of smoke can be seen coming from an area north of UBC Okanagan.
