Nathan Ngieng has accepted a position of deputy superintendent with the Abbotsford school district.
Ngieng has been with the district since August 2017, where he previously served as assistant superintendent and director of instruction, learning support services.
“I am delighted to announce this appointment to our senior leadership team,” said superintendent Sean Nosek. “Nathan’s dedication to building equitable and inclusive schools, as well as his in-depth organizational knowledge, makes him the perfect candidate to take this position in service of our 20,000 students.”
Ngieng has been an educator in the B.C. public school system for more than 20 years, serving in various roles at school and district levels. A press release from the school district says “he has tirelessly advocated for inclusive support in education and understands the importance of creating joyful, inquiry-based learning experiences that encourage students to develop agency, identity and connection.”
Ngieng also extends his leadership expertise to several provincial organizations and committees, including the B.C. Council of Administrators of Inclusive Support in Education (BC CAISE), Provincial Practice and Policy Board for the Youth Development Instrument (YDI) and the Provincial Anti-Racism Collaborative. He is completing a doctor of education (EdD) from Western University and holds a master of education (MEd) from the University of Calgary.
The district’s senior leadership team serves as a “crucial catalyst” in driving forward the board’s strategic plan and vision, ensuring that every decision made puts the needs of students at the forefront, the press release noted.
Nosek is new to the district, having replaced Kevin Godden over the summer as superintendent following his retirement.
