2 spot fires spark on Highway 5A near Merritt

One fire is under control while the other burns out-of-control

Two wildfires sparked on Highway 5A near Merritt Thursday afternoon.

The first blaze started at about 12:30 p.m. in the Cultus Creek area off the highway. The second fire ignited a few hours later at 2 p.m. near Beaver Ranch Flats.

The fire near Cultus Creek was quickly brought under control and is not expected to spread.

The Beaver Ranch Flats fire remains out of control at 0 hectares.

BC Wildfire is on the scene of both blazes.

Both fires are suspected human-caused.
