Woman dead, pilot air-lifted to hospital after Alberta helicopter crash

One person has died and another is in life-threatening condition following a helicopter crash in Central Alberta.

Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to a report of a helicopter crash near a private landing strip in the area of Range Road 40 in Lacombe County at 12:23 p.m. on Sunday, July 6.

"Upon arrival, emergency responders attempted to assist a female passenger, however she was declared deceased," states a RCMP release.

The 54-year-old woman was a Benalto resident.

The pilot, a 63-year-old Lacombe County resident, was air-lifted to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police officers remained on site until the scene was surrendered to investigators with the Transportation Safety Board.

"RCMP send their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased."
